About Art4u
ABOUT US
When my wife retired some ten years ago she decided to take up her love of painting again. She had studied art at school and had such a love of art that when she got her first job, one of the first things she bought for herself was a painting that she had seen in an art gallery. She had to put down a deposit and make up the balance through several instalments before she could take it home.
After retiring she therefore enrolled in art classes and started painting again. Seeing the fruits of her labour, and the pleasure she derived from it, I became interested in art as well and over the years we have been collecting artworks to the point where we hardly have wall space in our house for any more paintings. When I too retired I soon realised that I needed to find something to keep an overactive mind occupied, so this endeavour was a logical new challenge.
Our mission with this website is to promote and nurture emerging South African artists, young and old, by providing an easy to use platform for the marketing of their work.

PURCHASING ART
Should you be interested in any of the art posted, simply click on the picture and a window will pop enabling you to put in an offer/bid on that piece. When your offer/bid is received we will check that the artwork is still available and whether your price offered is acceptable to the seller before initiating the transaction process. If a deal is concluded and once payment has been received, we will instruct the seller to arrange for the delivery thereof. Payment to the seller will only be made by us once you have received the item in good order (Also see T’s & C’s below).
When an offer to purchase is made on one of your artworks, we will contact you to ascertain whether it is still available for sale and whether you are prepared to sell at the price offered. If a sale is concluded the purchaser will make payment to us, which money will be kept in Trust until the artwork has been delivered and the purchaser has acknowledged receiving it in good condition, after which it will be paid over to you, less the management fee. We will charge a management fee of 10% of the agreed sale price, deducted from the payment received, so consider this cost as well as the packaging cost when deciding on your asking price.
You, the seller, will be responsible for the cost of packaging the artwork adequately to protect it from damage during transit. The safety of the item during transit is also your responsibility and you must decide whether or not to insure it against damage or loss. The cost of delivery will be for the purchaser’s account, as this could vary greatly depending on the location of the two parties. The above arrangement is for the protection of both the purchaser and the seller. We want both parties to have the peace of mind that the exchange will be safeguarded.
